This very modern Deco-style silver ring by Kewa Pueblo artist Mitchell Calabaza consists of a graduated silver band which supports an oval scored and fluted silver bezel holding a beautiful blue turquoise gemstone. The mounting rests on a short pedestal that allows the setting to float above the silver band. The undecorated silver band sets the modern appeal to the striking blue turquoise.
The band measures ⅛" to 3/16" in width and is stamped CLBZ under a large wide M, a hallmark first used in 1977 by Mitchell Calabaza of Kewa Pueblo. Calabaza was born in 1949 and lives at Kewa Pueblo today. He is married to Marie Christine Trujillo. He has been an award winner at Santa Fe Indian Market and has exhibited there and at Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show and at the Museum of New Mexico portal display site in Santa Fe.
Condition: very good condition with minor scratches on the silver.
Provenance: this Kewa Pueblo Sterling Silver Ring with Turquoise Mounting by Mitchell Calabaza is from the collection of a resident of Santa Fe
