"Plumed Serpent" by Lomawywesa (Michael Kabotie)

Clouds hugged Palotpavi
legendary Red-City of the South
At the Center, Palotpavi womb
Palulukung, the Plumed Serpent was born
nursing milk maize
wrapped in day & night patterns
Climbing from Plaza cradle
wove the Sky & Earth into a Priestly Robe
and
painted it with flowers
and rainbow spectrum
Then as brilliant Morning Star
Palulukung danced to
Kachina chants
Kachina poetry
blessing life
with a new
beginning.
