This exquisitely crafted olla, a traditional water jar, was created by Rachel Aragon, an esteemed potter from Acoma Pueblo. The piece is notable for its thin walls, a testament to Aragon's skill in hand-coiling and shaping the clay with remarkable precision. The surface is adorned with intricate designs, divided into three distinct bands.
The top and bottom bands mirror each other, creating a harmonious balance in the overall composition. The middle band, located just below the vessel's shoulder, features a continuous triangular figure pattern that flows seamlessly around the jar. This pattern, meticulously painted, exemplifies the geometric precision and aesthetic sensibility that Acoma potters are renowned for.
The olla is signed on the bottom with Rachel Aragon, Acoma, N.M., marking it as an authentic piece of Acoma Pueblo artistry.
