This image is signed in lower left R. C. Gorman 1979 and noted in pencil in lower right Presentation Proof for lovely Miss Kate Rust. (This was a gift from R. C. to Katherine H. Rust of Albuquerque, the current owner of this lithograph. Rust and Gorman were very close friends).

This R. C. Gorman stone lithograph was issued in 1979 in an edition of 125 Arabic-numbered images at Houston Fine Art Press with principal printer Chris Fox and collaborating printer Richard Newland.  It was printed on Arches Cover Buff paper.  It is signed in lower right, has the workshop chop in lower right, Artist's chop in lower center, and copyright blind stamp in lower center reverse.

In addition to the Arabic-numbered images, lithographs traditionally have other copies that are notated differently and strictly controlled.  In the instance of this image, there were 7 CTPs (color trial proofs) which are experiments by the artist with selecting colors with which he is satisfied.  These seven are numbered as CTPs and are available for sale as one-of-a-kind prints.  Once the artist selects the one image that has the colors with which he is satisfied, then that image is the BAT (Bon á Tirer) and is the master print to which all others are carefully matched for accuracy.  It is the "standard."

There is generally a small quantity exclusively for the artist and the print studio.  In this instance, there are 15 APs (artist proofs) and 15 Roman numbered impressions.  The Artist proofs are the property of the artist to gift or keep as he desires.  The Roman numbered impressions are for the print studio in payment for its services and are available for the studio to sell for reimbursement.  There were 3 PPs (printer's proofs) which are to reward the printer for his/her efforts in the project and are available for the printer to keep or sell as desired.

Two Presentation Proofs are made available for presentation to museums or other notables at the desire of the artist and 2 Record Impressions which are permanent records at the print studio which are never supposed to be sold but are retained as a record of everything ever completed at that studio.

Rust of Albuquerque, the current owner of this lithograph.  Rust and Gorman were very close friends).
