Original Painting Entitled "Dancers of the Wind" [SOLD]

Ben Harjo, Jr. was born in Clovis, New Mexico, and spent his youth in Oklahoma. As a teenager, he was interested in cartooning and attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in 1965. In 1969 he was drafted into the Army and served in Vietnam from 1969-1971.  Following the war he attended Oklahoma State University and received a BFA in 1974. 

Harjo is one of the leading American Indian artists. His work is highly sought by private collectors and can be seen in public collections at the Fred E. Brown Collection at the Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, Red Earth Center, Gilcrease Museum, Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe, and the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian. His list of awards include Best of Show at Indian Market in 1983, being chosen to paint the Indian Market Poster in 2005 and being the featured artist at the Heard Museum in 1993.  

We are very fortunate to be able to present this painting by Harjo, titled Dancers of the Wind, a moving field of color. The artist has created three abstract dancers, possibly representing Eagle Dancers, each one uniquely rendered with a pleasing combination of shapes, colors and movement.

The painting is signed Benjamin Harjo Jr. and dated 1990 in lower right.
