This painting of a Cigar Store Indian was inspired from an actual wood sculpture that the artist had displayed at a gallery in Albuquerque Old Town in the 1970s. The wood Indian sculpture was stolen and eventually found in Arizona and reclaimed by Ed Singer. This painting shows the sculpture with a chain around the base so it is assumed that the painting was completed after the return of the sculpture from Arizona. The painting is signed and dated 1978.
Condition: original condition
Provenance: from the collection of Marvin and Betty Rubin of Albuquerque who purchased it from the artist in 1978.
