Wolf Robe Hunt (aka Wayne Henry Hunt) was born at Acoma Pueblo, the son of Morning Star, potter and weaver, and Edward Hunt, Chief of the Delight Makers and medicine man. He attended Albuquerque High School and took private art lessons from famous Albuquerque artist, Carl Redin.
Hunt moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and opened his own Indian arts shop there. He also studied art under Frank Vonderlachen in Tulsa. He passed away in 1977 in Tulsa.
Hunt painted in the traditional Indian School style—single figure or multiples, no background imagery and little or no ground plane. In this painting, Hunt has chosen to illustrate an Apache Gaan Dancer. The action of the dancer and the detail of the paraphernalia are good.
Condition: The painting appears to be in original excellent condition but it has not been examined out of the frame.
Provenance: ex.coll. California collector of Native American art.
