Once Known Native American Potter

This is one of the most charming small black wedding vessels we have encountered.  It probably dates to circa 1930s and is in excellent condition.  It is a footed vessel with a matte finish below the mid-body bulge, indications that it was made at Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo. The remainder of the body is stone polished red slip that was fired to a black sheen.  The underbody appears to not have been slipped in red clay and therefore is the natural clay body that fired to a matte finish.

Condition: very good condition

Provenance: from a family collection in Albuquerque
