17-½” long; 1-½” x 1-½” triangles - Item # C4643.65 SOLD
Five silver triangles were cast as individuals to form this classic necklace. The five were connected through silver loops on the back. Each triangle carries a small blue turquoise gemstone. Two handmade silver chains complete the set. The necklace is not stamped with the name of an artist. It appears to be from the mid-twentieth century.
The triangles appear simply as geometric shapes, however, triangles among New Mexico's Native tribes-Pueblo and Navajo-represent mountains. Mountains are significant for ceremonial purposes as well as accumulators of snow and rain which then washes down to provide seriously needed water for people and plants. This necklace is an item of beauty as well as a statement.
Condition: very good condition
Provenance: this Diné Necklace of Silver Triangles with Turquoise is from a private collection
