Stan Natchez attached old paper documents to canvas, painted the image of an Indian with a trailing head bonnet, then beaded his vest and moccasins. The Indian wears an Antelope headdress with a beaded strip. The American Flag he carries is beaded.
Stan Natchez was born in Los Angeles, California. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern Colorado and his MFA at Arizona State University. Natchez has exhibited nationally at The Southwest Museum, The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, and The National Museum of the American Indian, as well as institutions in Denmark, England, and Germany.
Natchez was raised in urban Los Angeles and his mixed heritage is reflected in his art, juxtaposing elements of both American and Native American culture and identity.
