Rendered with an Expressionist touch, Spirit Buffalo captures a lone man enveloped in a buffalo hide, seamlessly blending into the timeless expanse of the Southwest landscape. The sensitive portrayal of the figure's face evokes both strength and introspection, embodying the essence of a forgotten era. This stone lithograph, a printer's proof from 1980, showcases Fodor's mastery of technique and his deep connection to the themes of heritage and spirit.
Larry Fodor (1951-) is celebrated for his commanding and evocative images of North American Indians, created with the intention of maintaining an active and enduring presence. His fascination with Native American imagery stems from his belief that the fundamental human needs, fears, and desires are most immediate and apparent within prehistoric, primitive, and aboriginal cultures.
Fodor studied at Orange Coast College before earning a BFA from Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, California, where he also pursued graduate work toward an MFA in printmaking. His work has been widely exhibited and is part of numerous prestigious collections, including the Lannan Foundation in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.
