Artist signature of Francis J. Yellow, Lakota ArtistThis charming small watercolor is evocative of some of Francis J. Yellow's ledger drawings. Painted on a piece of cold-pressed watercolor paper with deckled edges, it is floated within its wooden frame on a red mat. The contours of the Lakota couple are outlined in ink and meticulously filled in with watercolor. Special attention is given to the detail of the clothing, which holds significant cultural importance to the Lakota. The woman on the left stands slightly in front of her male counterpart on the right, holding what appears to be a small infant in her arms, its legs dangling at her waist. The man's shirt is adorned with an array of polka dots, giving the entire composition an optical effect. The watercolor is signed at the bottom right, Francis J. Yellow Lako | 1993.
