Diné of the Navajo Nation artist Kim Yazzie skillfully formed and strung a classic necklace of handmade stamped sterling silver beads. Necklaces made of silver beads are one of the most iconic items of Diné-made jewelry. This necklace consists of 27 inches of beautifully stamped beads. They are all the same size and are strung on a foxtail chain.
Sometimes referred to as Navajo Pearls these silver beads were one of the first types of jewelry that silversmiths made after being introduced to silversmithing in the late 19th century. The beads were sewn on clothing as personal adornment, they were added to horse headstalls and bridles and worn as necklaces.
The necklace does not have a hallmark, but the current owner has the receipt of purchase which states the artist as Kim Yazzie.
Condition: the necklace is in excellent condition
Provenance: this Kim Yazzie Silver Stamped Bead Necklace is from a former New Mexico resident who now lives out of state
