This striking Zuni turquoise and silver needlepoint necklace was created by Zuni artisan Joyce Vacit Tsethlikai. She fashioned the necklace in the traditional Zuni needlepoint style by cutting and shaping slender segments of brilliant turquoise and setting the small pieces precisely into delicate silver bezels. Joyce fashioned four identical oval pendants and connected them together by a silver linked chain. The center portion of the necklace consists of two symmetrical pendants from which dainty silver dangles hang. Two additional pendants are linked to either side of the centerpiece.
Zuni artists are known for their lapidary skills. They are famous for their ability to make miniature works of art using small pieces of stone and shell. This elegant necklace is a great example of the skill and talent of Zuni artisans. It is signed with the artist’s hallmark JV.
