Hopi Pueblo Salimopia Katsina Doll Carving [SOLD]

The Salimopia Katsina is one of twelve Salimopia, embodying youth, vitality, and beauty. Representing the six sacred directions, with two Katsinas for each, these figures are revered as messengers of the gods, guides for other Katsinas, and warriors. Known for their quick and darting actions, their masks are nearly concealed beneath a striking ruff of feathers, adding to their dynamic and enigmatic presence.

This Hopi Salimopia Katsina Doll stands an impressive 14 inches tall and showcases exceptional craftsmanship. A variety of materials—wood, pigments, feathers, leather, yarn, and string—are meticulously incorporated, emphasizing both texture and detail. The kilt is richly painted, and the Katsina's distinctive snotted helmet is adorned with intricate designs. Completing the ensemble, a finely carved parrot perches atop the helmet, accented by vibrant violet and white feathers, adding a dynamic burst of color with an interesting detail to the doll's overall aesthetic.
