This most spectacular Hopi Pueblo pottery jar by artist Burel Naha is tall and cylindrical and covered with two massive tarantula and spider webs, both on front and back. The body of each tarantula is an elaborate Hopi pottery design. The creamy-white slip was beautifully polished and appears to be ivory. A simple design in black defines the rim. Motion by the tarantula is emphasized with an outline of stickling.
Burel Naha (b.1944 - ) is of the Spider Clan and the son of Helen Naha (Feather Woman) and brother of Rainy Naha and Sylvia Naha. Burel and his sisters have continued the tradition of their famous mother in producing pottery of the finest quality and with superb design creations.
