Burel Naha, Hopi-Tewa Potter

This most spectacular Hopi Pueblo pottery jar by artist Burel Naha is tall and cylindrical and covered with two massive tarantula and spider webs, both on front and back.  The body of each tarantula is an elaborate Hopi pottery design. The creamy-white slip was beautifully polished and appears to be ivory. A simple design in black defines the rim.  Motion by the tarantula is emphasized with an outline of stickling.
