Laura Dashee’s Hopi-Tewa Pottery: A Tapestry of Geometric Harmony
This pottery tile was made by Hopi-Tewa potter Laura Dashee. It features designs arranged in 5 rectangular blocks. The center rectangle is outlined in brown framing and is void of design. On either side of this rectangle are two more, each of which has a design of six dark brown triangles connected with a series of parallel lines, likely representing clouds and rain. At the top and bottom of the design are polychrome geometric elements. The back of the tile is signed L. Dashee Hopi.
Laura Dashee signs her work as L. Dashee. Laura has been actively making pottery since 1970, and is still producing red and black-on-white jars, wedding vases, and tiles with her favorite designs of Mudheads, clouds, and parrots.
