Rainy Naha, Hopi Pueblo Pottery

Artist signature and feather hallmark of Rainy Naha, Hopi Pueblo PotterThis polychrome jar is a striking example of Rainy Naha's distinctive style as a modern Hopi potter. The piece features a white-tan base adorned with birds in a dynamic, swirling formation, each one positioned in a balanced dance-one looking upward, the other downward. Encircling the birds are intricate geometric patterns, including diagonal lines, spirals, checkerboards, cones, and zigzag steps. The color scheme incorporates deep and light browns, stippled sienna, light orange, and light yellow, all set against a white background that integrates with the birds. The jar's bold and perfectly formed shape further enhances its visual impact.

Rainy Naha (1949- ), also known as Feather Woman, signs her work with a traditional feather hallmark, the same used by her mother, Helen Naha (the first Feather Woman), who was the daughter of Paqua Naha (the first Frog Woman). Rainy Naha continues the family tradition, creating stunning pottery in the traditional white slip with polychrome pigments, following the styles established by her mother and grandmother.
