“The Water Serpent Kachina is seen most often in the Soyohim or Plaza Dances but has also appeared in other ceremonies such as the Bean Dance Parade. Fewkes (1903:84) reports this kachina dancing with the Snow Kachina at the reopening of a spring on First Mesa. Palölökong Kachina is not a common personation. He is not often made as a doll. Probably because he is believed to cause swollen stomachs.” Wright 1973
The carving of this doll is exceptional. The body proportions are well illustrated and the painting was very well executed. Neil David, Sr. (1944-Present) is recognized as a fine carver and his talent is obvious in this early carving by him. This carving was made in 1979. It was purchased by Adobe Gallery directly from the carver at that time.
