This Palhikw’mana Katsina doll is from the Fred Harvey Company Advertising Department and probably dates to the mid-twentieth century. She is a traditional Hopi carving and an excellent representation of the katsina. She is mounted on a square black wood platform of the style used by the Fred Harvey Company on many of its katsina dolls. The pedestal is screwed into the feet of the doll in the manner used by the company. On her back, stencilled in black ink, is Property of and Return to ADVERTISING DEP SANTA FE LINES Room 1753 80 E Jackson Chicago, ILL. Additionally, a printed paper label that reads From The Hopi Villages, with 8483 20.00 written in ink is mounted on the back of her manta. This style paper label is documented as a Fred Harvey Company label.
Condition: this Hopi Palhikw'mana Katsina Doll from the Fred Harvey Collection is very good condition structurally with some paint abrasion. There does not appear to be any damage or repairs.
