This image, that somewhat resembles the Chakwaina Katsina face, first appeared on the interior of a Jeddito bowl from a thousand years ago. Mark Tahbo elaborated on the face by adding the body of a bird to it. The net-like design off to the left represents an area of abundant seeds, making the katsina/bird mixture a spreader of seeds. Tahbo used Jeddito clay for the tile.
Condition: new
Provenance: this Hopi Large Pottery Tile with Katsina Imagery is directly from the artist, Mark Tahbo.
