This is a marvelous early 20th century katsina doll that was certainly carved by pocket knife and no electric tools. The manner in which the cape is draped over the shoulders and body is extraordinary. There is primitiveness about the carving that is charming. It is from a single piece of cottonwood root except for the horns and snout which were added.
Condition: very good condition. The right hand was broken off and glued back in place.
Provenance: from a gentleman from California
