This katsina appears during the spring dances as a means of promoting the growth of corn. A line of Corn Dancers appears facing a line of female companions who use sheep scapulae and rasps along with gourds to produce music.
The basic torso carving is from a single piece of cottonwood root, with the addition of the arms and dance sash hanging on his right side. The ears and snout are additions as well.
The carving appears to be of the 1960 decade, based on the style of carving and acrylic paint.
Condition: The carving is in excellent condition.
