Darlene James Nampeyo is a granddaughter of Rachel Nampeyo, great granddaughter of Annie Healing Nampeyo and great-great granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano. She has been a constant winner of awards at the Museum of Northern Arizona’s annual Hopi Show and was awarded the Fannie Nampeyo Memorial Award, Best of Division at the Scottsdale Native American Indian Cultural Foundation Show, and seven consecutive Santa Fe Indian Market awards.
This circular tile features the face of Tawa, the Sun Katsina. Tawa appears in Mixed Katsina Dances with the flute in his left hand that is associated with him in many myths. He is not often personated but is one of the most popular Kachina dolls for collectors.
Condition: very good condition
Provenance: from the extensive Native American collection of a family from Oklahoma
