This Historic Kewa Pueblo Possibly Late 19th Century Chile Bowl has all the attributes that would make one believe, which we do, that it dates to the late 1800s.  The patina is richly dark, the application of the design was somewhat primitive, and there are five black circular spots painted on the interior bottom of the bowl, something for which we have no explanation. The design on the exterior incorporates rows of five black dots.  The interior shows evidence of the historic bowl having been used. The bowl tilts slightly.

All of those traits easily convinces one that the bowl was made strictly for use in a pueblo home and not intended to be sold.  Bowls made to be sold were made with more attention to detail. It is these details that make this bowl of such interest to collectors.

There are five black circular spots painted on the interior bottom of the bowl, something for which we have no explanation.
