The Navajo men have travelled a long distance to hunt for buffalo, perhaps four or five days' travel to get to where they were plentiful. At first, it appears to be only one buffalo but there are many of them behind the men and horses. Most of the action is going on in the background. Dark blue clouds foretell rain is coming.
The huge butte behind the action provides a good background to highlight the colorful clothing and of the Navajo and their horses. Dust is rising from the ground from the action of buffalo and horses. This is one of the few high action paintings by Beatien Yazz. Most of his are mellow and quieter.
This Native American Painting is dated 1978 and is an excellent example of how accomplished he was later in his career. Yazz painted many small paintings of animals and children but his major paintings like this one illustrate how talented he really was. It is signed and dated in lower right.
Condition: very good condition
Provenance: this painting of a Group of Diné Men on a Buffalo Hunt is from a gentleman in Albuquerque
