This painting bears the stamp THE STUDIO U. S. Indian School, Santa Fe, New Mexico in the lower right corner. This is an indication that Merina Lujan Hopkins (1906-1993) Pop Chalee - Blue Flower painted it while a student at the Santa Fe Indian School in 1937 where she studied with Harrison Begay, Allan Houser, Gerald Nailor, and Quincy Tahoma.
This painting resembles the style of paintings of Oklahoma artists, particularly in the clothing of the dancer. She later developed her own unique style which made her famous and among the most collectible of Native artists.
Condition; appears to be in very good condition and has been framed using archival materials.
Provenance: this painting of Front and Back Views of a Dancer is from the estate of a former client from New York
