Fritz Scholder (1937-2005) was a groundbreaking American artist known for his bold, thought-provoking works that challenged conventional portrayals of Native Americans. An enrolled member of the Luiseño tribe, Scholder often defied labels, creating art that offered sharp commentary on identity and cultural stereotypes. His revolutionary approach redefined the concept of the "Indian artist," securing his place as a prominent and influential figure in contemporary art.
Flowers at Giverny is part of Scholder's Flower Series and serves as an homage to the legendary French painter Claude Monet. Inspired by Monet's iconic garden in Giverny, where he created many of his Impressionist masterpieces, this Aquatint Etching reflects Scholder's distinctive style and artistic vision. The print is signed "Scholder" in the lower right and numbered 40/120 in the lower left, making it a unique and collectible piece from one of the most influential artists of his time.
