Rita Lewis (1920-1991) signatureRita, the daughter of famous potter Ascencion Banada, married Ivan Lewis, son of famous potter Lucy Lewis. Together they started making bowls and animal figurines around 1971, and storyteller figurines around 1973. Following the death of Ivan, Rita continued making storyteller figurines alone. She passed away in 1991.

This storyteller is probably one made by Rita Lewis after Ivan passed away as it is signed only with her name.  It is typical of the style made by her and also made jointly by them.  This is a female adult and she is beautifully dressed with a cape draped down her back and an exquisite necklace with a shell pendant.  The kids are actively climbing over her.
