Pins like this were very popular in the early 20th century with tourists traveling to the Southwest on the AT&SF trains.  The Fred Harvey Company had hotels with gift shops to satisfy the needs of the travelers.  The eagle was an important bird to Native tribes and, therefore, was a symbol tourists associated with them and a symbol they were pleased to wear on their coats or blouses.

The silver in this pin is thicker than today’s sheet silver so perhaps it is Ingot silver.  The beautiful oval green turquoise cab has a vein of copper flowing through it.  The silver is profusely stamped to delineate the wing and tail feathers.

Condition: very good condition

Provenance: from the collection of a gentleman in Georgia
