Ada Suina Southwest Indian Pottery Figurines Cochiti Pueblo signature

Ada Suina has always been recognized as one of the premier figurine potters at Cochiti. Her storyteller figurines, such as this one, have strong, chiseled faces and happy expressions. She still uses all natural materials and fires the figurines outdoors in the traditional manner. Ada has recently resumed making pottery figurines following the death of her husband a few years ago. She relied so much on his help in digging the clay and working it to a point where she could form the figurines. Now she has to do everything by herself, therefore it is taking significantly more time to complete a piece. This storyteller figurine is an older one, probably 20 years old or more, and was made when her husband helped. Condition: appears to be in original condition Provenance: from a gentleman in Albuquerque Recommended Reading: The Pueblo Storyteller: Development of a Figurative Ceramic Tradition by Barbara Babcock, et al.
