Maria Laweka was a daughter of Damacia Cordero, the famous figurine potter from Cochiti, and sister to Martha Arquero and Josephine Arquero, both of whom were potters of note. This fat cat is a very humorous example of Laweka's figurine pottery. The entire family of Damacia Cordero was and is very adept at making wonderful figurine pottery.
Condition: The cat holds two kittens, one of whose head was broken off and glued back in place. Also, the tail of the Mother Cat has been broken and glued back carefully. Neither repair is noticeable unless examined very carefully.
