This beautiful concho belt was made by Cippy Crazyhorse, one of today's most prominent Native American jewelers. Cippy comes from a family of talented artists, and his respect for tradition is apparent in his work. This piece is timeless and elegant, displaying thoughtful designs and exceptional workmanship. Nine conchos and a slightly larger buckle are spread out evenly over a slim leather belt. The way the conchos are designed will be easily recognizable to those who collect Cippy's work, and the skill with which they were made is apparent.

What is most unique about this belt is the inclusion of lapis stones. They are set within the center of each piece, offering a blue tone that is deep, dark, and complex. Those who choose to study these stones closely will be rewarded with a rich experience. In personal correspondence with the original owner of this piece, Cippy's wife confirmed that this is the only belt Cippy made featuring Lapis stones; we can't help but wonder why he did not make more. While rarity is significant with a prominent artist's work, beauty is most important, and this wonderful concho belt succeeds on both levels.

The buckle is stamped with Cippy's CZH hallmark.

Cipriano Quintana (1946- ), or Cippy Crazyhorse, was born at Cochiti Pueblo. His father, Joe Quintana, was trained at Frank Patania's Thunderbird Studio in Santa Fe, where he was introduced to new designs and methods for working with silver. He was one of the finest silversmiths of his generation. Cippy continued the family tradition, becoming an innovator in his own right. His work is defined by heavy gauge silver fashioned into jewelry with sleek, elegant designs reflecting traditional Pueblo motifs with a modern twist. The winner of multiple awards, he has been a judge at Santa Fe Indian Market and a curator of museum exhibits. He has received international acclaim, and his works are included in many prominent museums and private collections.
