A skillfully shaped turquoise bear is surrounded by abstract multi-color mosaic inlay gemstones in this belt buckle by Turza Wells and Andrew Shows. The mosaic is set upon a brass frame. The bear is one of the most common animal designs in Southwestern jewelry. They are believed to represent physical strength, leadership, and self-knowledge.

Turza Wells and Andrew Shows began working together in 1978.  She was a silversmith from Illinois, and he was a painter/sculptor from Maryland.  They combined their skills and surmounted a one-of-a-kind style of inlay and carved-stone jewelry, shaping stones into images that tell a story.

This buckle comes from the estate of Marvin and Betty Rubin.

Condition: the buckle is in excellent condition.

Provenance: this Brass Belt Buckle with Mosaic Gemstone Inlay Bear is from the collection of Marvin and Betty Rubin
