Cochiti Pueblo has a long history of producing figurative pottery. It reached its prime in the last quarter of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century. Popular figurative items were animals, birds, and human forms. This deer is one of the most interesting and best constructed figurines we have had from Cochiti in some time. It is probably early 20th century and is not signed by a potter, which is too bad as the artist should have received credit for such a marvelous piece. There is no damage to the figurine at all. It is in excellent condition.
