This original painting was created by New Mexico artist Betty Sabo. Her subject here is a cluster of buildings nestled within a small Southwestern town. In the foreground, a path winds away from the viewer and off to the left. A number of small adobe buildings stand just past the path, and a red and white barn stands further into the distance. Going even further back, we see thick forest, a trio of purple mountain peaks, and a massive cloud formation rolling through an otherwise clear blue sky.
Sabo’s work with this piece is excellent. The image is both realistic and expressive, with a gentle feel that will appeal to many. Light and shadow play a large part in the success of the piece, as does Sabo’s fine use of color. Her palette mostly relies on earthy naturalism, with one notable exception: a fantastic vivid pink. It appears first in a tree near the cluster of buildings, and again a bit further into the distance, adding a welcome splash of bright color to this tranquil scene. This painting is a fine example of Betty Sabo’s incredible talent with Southwestern images.
The painting is signed Sabo in lower left. It is framed in a beautifully carved frame.
