Michael Kabotie was the son of famed Hopi artist, Fred Kabotie.  Michael passed away at the early age of 67 years at the height of his fame.  He had attended Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, Kansas in 1961.  In the 1970s and 1980s, he was the spokesman for the Artist Hopid, a group of Hopi artists who worked together.

 

Signature of Michael Kabotie (1942 – 2009) LomawywesaThis painting “Ceremonial Still Life” was purchased by the current owners from Lovena Ohl Gallery in 1988, the year it was painted.  It measures 14” x 18” and is acrylic on canvas.  It is signed Lomawywesa and dated 1988

 

The painting is published in the book: Michael’s Journey: The Mystic Art of Michael Kabotie by Brigitte and Dietmar Behnke, Heidelberg, Germany, 2013. 

 

Condition: very good condition
