This is a most unusual original work of art by Tony Abeyta. It is a canvas painting wrapped on a wood frame in the shape of a body figure entitled “Corn Maiden,” a representation of the Supernatural Being of the Diné. The head of the sculpture is a mixture of red colors with turquoise stripes on the cheeks. The torso has the arms wrapped around the front as if in support of the three ears of corn. Legs are divided by a vertical turquoise bar outlined in brown. Rising up each leg are corn plants.
The current owners of this art display purchased it directly from the artist in 1987. They indicated that the paint was not even dry at that time as the artist had just completed painting it. It is quite likely that this is the only such art sculpture of this type ever produced by the artist.
