Sarah Garcia was born of a Laguna Pueblo mother (Maria Trujillo) but has spent her adult life as an Acoma potter, probably one of the most prolific potters at the pueblo. She, along with Jessie Garcia, Lucy Lewis, and Marie Z. Chino, was largely responsible for the revival of Anasazi and Tularosa designs on contemporary Acoma wares. In the mid-20th century, Acoma potters revived the use of Mimbres designs as they consider the Mimbres as ancestors.
This dish features one large Mimbres fish as the sole element of design. The dish is signed on verso S. Garcia Acoma, N.M. It dates to circa 1990.
Condition: very good condition
Provenance: from a family collection in Colorado who purchased it from Adobe Gallery in 1995.
