This storyteller figurine was made by Marilyn Henderson in 1985. It is a female adult with 8 children. It was awarded First Place at the Northern Pueblos Annual Show in 1985.
Marilyn certainly captured all the charm imaginable in this pottery storyteller figurine. The adult holds an Acoma seed pot covered with designs from the Mimbres culture. The children are each involved in his or her own activity. It appears that they are all boys.
Marilyn Henderson Ray (b.1954) comes from a family of successful potters. She learned from her grandmother, Dolores S. Sanchez, beginning at the age of eight. Her grandmother gave her a special polishing stone. She and her grandmother gathered natural clay together. (Schaaf, 2002)
Over the years, I have seen many of Marilyn's storyteller figures, but this is one of the best I recall. It is no wonder it was awarded a First-Place ribbon (included).
