Delores Juanico is a daughter of Marie S. Juanico (1937 - ) who was her mentor. Marie had learned pottery principals from her mother, Delores Sanchez, who lived to the age of 103. Young Delores carries on the tradition from her grandmother and mother of making the finest Acoma pottery.
Delores creates miniature pottery and applies designs from published historic pottery. This jar has a design she chose from a published Acoma jar from circa 1870. She acknowledges that by putting the date of the original jar on the bottom of her jar. The design on this jar is from Figure 10.27, Chapter 10, The Pottery of Acoma Pueblo by Harlow and Lanmon.
Delores creates vessels with the thinnest walls imaginable. All of her materials are natural and her firing process is traditional.
