A distinctly Acoma Pueblo nacimiento set, this scene features Mary and Joseph next to two lambs with baby Jesus in the center. The designs are very traditional with some unique touches added for character. One of these includes a bird atop the head of Joseph, looking as if he is watching out into the night. Also noteworthy are a ladybug at the bottom right foot of baby Jesus, as well as two others on Mary's right shoulder and left hip. The figures are seen in jubilee as baby Jesus sleeps peacefully next to the lambs.
Each piece is signed M. Ray, Acoma, NM 2009.
A member of one of the two Lewis families known for pottery at Acoma Pueblo, Marilyn Ray was born into the Yellow Corn Clan in 1954.
