I did not realize it until I just did a search of our history files, but we have not had any pottery by Candelaria Gachupin in inventory since the year 2000. It must be relatively rare. Although this is a small jar, it would fill that gap for any collector looking for one of her pottery pieces.
Candelaria, from Zia Pueblo, was the mother of Dora Tse.Pe, now of San Ildefonso Pueblo. Exhibitions that included works by Candelaria Gachupin are “Seven Families in Pueblo Pottery”; at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, Albuquerque, 1974; “One Space: Three Visions,” Albuquerque Museum, Albuquerque, 1979; and Santa Fe Indian Market on a continuing basis.
This small jar is in original excellent condition.
