A most unusual double-lobed jar, combining Black-on-red and Black-on-cream in the same piece, appearing as if someone placed one jar over the other. If there was a reason for this other than to be creative, it escapes us. Either piece individually would be stunning, but together they really make a statement. The Black-on-cream upper bowl has a rim designed to support a lid. The underbody of the lower vessel is concave and the unslipped tan clay exhibits the bumpiness inherent is all Tesuque pottery.
The design of the main body of the Black-on red features four free-floating items. The shoulder and neck have three bands of design which are more structured that those on the main body. The Black-on-cream pot has two design elements, each one of which encircles the vessel.
The condition is excellent.
An old paper tag affixed to the underbody identifies it as being from the Wilkins Collection
