Beatien Yazz, born in 1928, spent his childhood on the Navajo Reservation, familiarizing himself with nature and the wildlife that freely roamed its vast lands. In their natural habitat, animals provided beautiful tableaus from which Yazz could draw on to create his beautiful works depicting everyday life on the reservation.
Deer are a motif that Yazz utilized in a great many paintings. In this piece, two deer are trotting down a very steep hillside. The use of maroon and pink give this painting a very contemplative feel.
Condition:The painting is in original excellent condition except for spotting in the upper left-hand corner running along the top to the middle. (See second image detail). It has never been framed and is currently shrink-wrapped for protection. It is signed in lower right.
Provenance: From the collection of the family of Balcomb's Ranch, Colorado
