Susie Youvella was a marvelous potter, always forming her vessels with utmost care. She routinely made the walls of her vessels the thinnest possible. This wedding vessel is no exception. It is decorated on the front and back—each displaying a stylized bird. It is an older piece, but in very good condition.
Susie was a member of the Kachina Clan and lived atop First Mesa in the village of Sichomovi. She was the mother of Hopi potter Wallace Youvella, who, with his wife Iris Nampeyo, has won many awards for their creative pottery pieces.
