This truly is an exceptional jar by Frogwoman. The shape and balance are extraordinary and the design is just right for the shape of the jar. Application of the design is near perfection. The lines are crisp, the paint application is evenly distributed, and the layout is well balanced.
Joy Navasie is among the most famous of Hopi-Tewa potters. She learned the skill from her famous mother, Paqua Naha, the first Frog Woman. Naha developed white ware pottery in the mid-1950s and Navasie picked up the tradition and continued it until her retirement in 1995.
This jar was purchased by the present owners in 1991 from the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center gift shop in Albuquerque. It is still in original pristine condition.
