Small Diné (Navajo) Painting of a White Tail Doe [SOLD]

For three-quarters of a century, Jimmie Toddy, or Beatien Yazz, has been sharing the life of the Diné with enthusiastic art collectors throughout the world. This has been more important to him than personal wealth. He now is no longer able to paint due to failing eyesight, but what he has provided over these decades is a wonderful record of his life and that of his fellow Diné.

He has always been an astute student of the natural life on the reservation. He has studied and painted wildlife as it exists throughout the very large Navajo reservation.

In this instance, Yazz has painted a young doe romping around among the native plants, evidencing no fear of danger, just having fun.

There is a companion to this painting that is the same subject, facing West rather than East. They make a beautiful set when hung together. It is our Item #C2986H.

Provenance: This painting is among a collection from the Balcomb family, formerly owners of an art gallery which they closed in 1976.
