Cochiti potters are masters at figurine production. Notice the facial features of this small figurine—his high cheeks, well-formed nose, and perfect mouth. I would surmise that the potter made this figurine to represent one of the “chanters” who sing along and accompany the drummers during pueblo dances.

The figurine is beautifully painted, too. There is a traditional pottery decoration on the back of his shirt. His hair is painted a deep black with red ties for the braids. There is a very minute chip on his nose and in his hair. The figurine will stand on its own, but is somewhat shaky.
