This small Zuni jar appears to date between 1890 and 1910, the last period of pottery production before mid-1900s revival. This jar, although small in size, is traditional in all aspects of manufacture, firing and design. The puki flexure is quite prominent on this jar which helps pre-date it before the 1920s. The lack of a rosette or medallion on the body design would normally indicate a date preceding 1880, but the diminutive size of this jar may be the reason no medallion was added. The concave underside is quite exaggerated for such a small jar.

Any piece of pottery of this age would be expected to evidence some damage. This one has a triangular-shaped wedge missing from the rim, cracks running vertically from the rim that have been stabilized, and some degree of surface abrasion. There is still plenty to appreciate about this little jewel.
